Bikram Yoga is a type of hot yoga that consists of a series of 26 postures and two breathing exercises practiced in a room heated to approximately 105°F (40°C) with 40% humidity. The heat helps to detoxify the body, increase flexibility, and prevent injury.
What should I bring to a Bikram Yoga class?
We recommend bringing a yoga mat, a large towel, and a bottle of water. You may also want to bring a change of clothes for after class as you will sweat a lot during the session.
What should I wear to class?
Wear lightweight, breathable clothing that allows for a full range of motion. Most people wear shorts and a tank top or sports bra. Avoid heavy or baggy clothing.
Do I need to have prior yoga experience?
No prior yoga experience is necessary. Bikram Yoga is suitable for beginners and experienced practitioners alike. Our instructors will guide you through the postures and provide modifications if needed.
How often should I practice Bikram Yoga?
For best results, we recommend practicing Bikram Yoga at least 3 times a week. However, even attending one class a week can offer significant benefits.
Can I practice Bikram Yoga if I have a medical condition?
If you have any medical conditions or concerns, please consult with your doctor before starting Bikram Yoga. Inform your instructor of any conditions or injuries so they can provide appropriate modifications.
What are the benefits of practicing Bikram Yoga?
Bikram Yoga offers numerous benefits, including improved flexibility, strength, and balance. It can help with weight loss, detoxification, stress reduction, and overall well-being.
Can I eat before class?
It is best to avoid eating a heavy meal 2-3 hours before class. A light snack or fruit is recommended if you need energy before your session.
How do I sign up for a class?
You can sign up for classes through our website, Mindbody app, or by visiting our studio. Please arrive at least 15 minutes early if you are a first-time student to complete any necessary paperwork and get settled.
What if I can’t do all the postures?
It’s completely normal not to be able to do all the postures, especially as a beginner. The key is to listen to your body and do what you can. Over time, your strength, flexibility, and endurance will improve.
How can I ensure I stay hydrated?
Drink plenty of water throughout the day leading up to your class. Bring a water bottle to class and take small sips as needed. Continue to hydrate after class to replenish lost fluids.
Are there any contraindications for practicing Bikram Yoga?
Certain conditions, such as pregnancy or severe hypertension, may require modifications or might be contraindicated for hot yoga. Please consult with your doctor and inform your instructor before participating.
